With performance-based pay comprising more than 50 percent of some executive’s compensation, we look at recent data from ISS Incentive Lab to evaluate goal achievement and actual performance results for earnings metrics. More than half of companies achieve their target goals, and more than 60 percent of actual performance results fall with + or – 10 percent of target goals. To our knowledge, this is the first analysis to review individual metric performance in relation to goal achievement for executive compensation awards for a broad universe of over 2,000 companies.
