Brief
To gain insight into how both Energy sector companies and their investors reacted to the sudden decline in the price of oil, this analysis examines pay practices and year-over-year changes across the industry. We analyzed annual and long-term incentive metrics, particularly the composition of metrics used and goal achievement disclosed at 2015 meetings, as well as goal-setting by companies where financial metrics constituted a majority of annual incentive objectives. Finally, say-on-pay vote results at 2015 shareholder meetings are reviewed as a potential gauge for what to expect in 2016, given the continuing downturn.
