Building Company Watchlists for Proxy Season
JANUARY 26, 2018
Proxy season is right around the corner, and for governance professionals at both investors and companies, time is growing short. Companies are trying to figure out what last-minute and in-season shareholder engagement they may need to do, and investors are seeking to prioritize their deep-dive efforts in evaluating specific companies and specific issues.
One way that investors commonly prioritize is by building “watchlists” – lists of companies that they are particularly interested in monitoring closely through their next annual meeting (or longer). In truth, many sophisticated investors began to put together these watchlists months ago, and used them to prioritize outbound engagement efforts, and to triage incoming engagement requests. Other investors are just now putting together their lists in an effort to proactively manage the upcoming proxy season.
