John Roe is Head of ISS Analytics, an Institutional Shareholder Services business focused on developing data, analytics, and artificial intelligence products for use by global financial market participants. In this capacity, John also oversees the development of ISS’ quantitative methodologies covering executive and director compensation evaluation and corporate governance scoring and rankings. Notably, he also oversees all aspects of the firm’s thought-leadership initiatives to include dozens of white papers and webcasts produced annually.
With deep subject-matter expertise, John frequently speaks at events including the New York Stock Exchange Governance Series, the Wall Street Journal Global Compliance Symposium, and conferences for the Governance Professionals of Canada, the National Association of Corporate Directors, the American Bar Association Executive Compensation National Institute, and the National Association of Stock Plan Professionals.
John has been widely quoted in the press on the topics ranging from compensation to governance, to disclosure, including in the Wall Street Journal, the Financial Times, Reuters, Bloomberg, Pensions & Investments, Institutional Investor, and other local, regional, and industry-focused publications.
Previously, John led Advisory & Client Service at ISS Corporate Solutions (ICS), a wholly owned subsidiary of Institutional Shareholder Services, where he grew and led a team of governance, executive compensation, and ESG experts.
Prior to ICS, John was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of a registered institutional investor. John also served on the White House staff, was a consultant with McKinsey & Company, was a practicing electrical engineer, and served as a military officer.
John holds an MBA in Strategy & Finance from Rice University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Houston and the United States Naval Academy.
