ISS Releases 2010 "SCAS Top 50"
Rockville, MD (March 21, 2011) – Institutional Shareholder Services Inc., a leading provider of corporate governance solutions to the global financial community, today released its Securities Class Action Services (SCAS) annual list of the top 50 plaintiffs’ law firms. The SCAS 50 list ranks the top firms by the total dollar amount, total number of settlements, and average value of settlements of final securities class action settlements occurring in 2010 in which the firms served as lead or co-lead counsel. The top five law firms on this year’s ‘SCAS 50’ list were Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann, Robbins Geller Rudman & Dowd, Labaton Sucharow, Hargrove Pierson & Brown, and Marcus & Auerbach.
"Bernstein Litowitz Berger & Grossmann led in our overall rankings with just under $1 billion in total settlements," said Luke Green, Vice President of ISS’ Securities Class Action Services. "As expected, settlement dollars by firm remained slightly higher than historical averages with 17 firms breaking the $100 million barrier." A copy of the report can be accessed at www.issgovernance.com/docs/SCAS50for2010.
ISS has published its 'SCAS 50' list for the past eight years. The list is intended to help institutional investors maximize shareholder value by highlighting those firms playing the most active role in U.S. class action cases and returning the most settlement dollars to investors.
The SCAS research team maintains the industry’s most comprehensive database on securities class action litigation and provides professional monitoring and claims filing services to institutional investors, custodian banks, hedge funds, and other financial firms who have a stake in class action suits. Currently the team is tracking over 2600 cases representing over $21 billion in settlements.
